Fading Echoes

I don’t know where to begin,
now that the ashes settle thin.
Was it fate or just the tide?
One blink—gone, like a landslide.

Should I curse myself for loving too deep,
for drowning in a promise I swore to keep?
I wear this sorrow like a noose,
a fool trapped in a lover’s ruse.

You told me never to stray too far,
so I stayed—held captive in your arms.
Through raging storms and hollow days,
I bled devotion, I burned in faith.

You swore that I was yours to hold,
to shape, to mend, to love, to mold.
That through the dark, you’d light my way,
never falter, never stray.

But shadows shift, and hearts decay,
you vanished into yesterday.
I can’t despise the ghost of you,
but darling, one day… so will you.
